Kanga spectrum analyser kit back to start page
This was a beautiful project from which learned a lot.
The analyser has been described by Wes Hayward (W7ZOI) and Terry White (K7TAU) in a very informative article in QST (August 1998, click here). It was designed for 0.05-70 MHz, which is appropriate for most HF applications. Certainly, better commercial spectrum analysers are available and sometimes are also affordable, such as a used HP-141T or the handheld ´Tiny SA´. However, building your own analyser gives far more insight into theory and application of spectrum analysers.
The Kanga kit was intended to be connected to an existing oscilloscope serving as a display. I preferred to build it with an integrated scope, using a DG7-32 crt tube with an appropriate HV supply.
I also added the
tracking generator
kit which was offered by Kanga as an add-on. It also worked fine. This
analyser was
tremendously helpful in many other projects.
To my knowledge,
the
kit kit is no more available today, unfortunately. The figure below
shows my version, adjusted for scan up to 70 MHz with 10 MHz markers on
the screen.
